After multiple days of cleaning, my studio is the most presentable it's been in years.
It's not pretty, but this is a space I can make art in.That's good, because NaMoPaiMo is coming.
Usually by this time in January, I have chosen my victim. I know what color I'm going to paint, what media I intend to use and it's probably at least mostly prepped.
This year, I know none of these things.
In an attempt to move things along, I brought a couple of armfuls of unpainted resins up from the basement for photos and consideration. This guy should be the obvious choice. He's mostly prepped, and he's destined to be an easy color. Unfortunately, that color (black) feels a little too easy. I've painted it twice during NaMoPaiMo, first in 2020 and again last year with my bonus horse. While I'm not up for a big challenge, I want to do something a little more ambitious.
The next two candidates, Amarant and High Flyer, are both nearly prepped.I know what colors they want to be, and either would be a fine choice.
There's just one problem, they are big. High Flyer feels especially huge. Past experience tells, I do better when my NaMoPaiMo projects have a lot less surface area. These two are headed back to the basement!
Lol. Here's Myrtle. Again. I have been picking away at her prepping for years. She looks good now, but I guarantee that if I chose her, she would sprout a whole new field of pinholes somewhere around mid-month. I just can't do that to myself.
This little Kitty Cantrell foal would be another smart choice. He's small, he's mostly prepped and I know what color he wants to be. But you know, I painted a foal last year, and for whatever reason, I'm just not feeling it.
So if not a foal, maybe a little pony?
I have plenty of those.
Of course, some of them are a little too good for me.Shhhhh, Shauna. I agree with you in theory, but also, not this year.
Hmmmm. Maybe Donut? I've done some prepwork, and he looks pretty clean.
He told me he wants to be a pintaloosa, and I had not sourced reference pictures for that, but thanks to a link Erika Isbell shared yesterday, perhaps I don't have to.
It's not a simple color, but he's little and a lot of him will be white. It feels kind of doable? I don't know. It's warmish today. I think I'll put a coat of primer on him, just to see how that goes...

Pony for sure! I need Donut! How can I get a Donut?? -Kristie
ReplyDeleteAww such a fluffy boy
ReplyDeleteI love that color and pattern for doughnut hope you pick him
ReplyDeleteThose shaggy ponies are daunting to me, but the first one is really cute! Love the sass.

This pintaloosa has a beautiful color. It would definitely look great. I would be very excited to see you paint it.
ReplyDeleteOf the resins, I like the first one best. I would immediately have a color in mind.
I still have no idea which horse will be my namopaimo this year...
