For a little over three years, my routine was to get up every morning and go to the barn.
Oh, I missed a few mornings here and there: When I had covid, again when I had norovirus, when I was in Kentucky, Iceland, North Carolina and California and every now and again for a model horse.
Those were exceptions, however. Day in and day out, I was there every morning spending time with my girl.
I have felt completely unanchored in the weeks since Olive died. Typically, I don't go in to work until noon, and filling those morning hours has been tough. Since the fires began, I've spent entirely too much time doing nothing but watching flames. It's not good.
Yesterday, I didn't work and didn't want to spend another entire day that way. I challenged myself to clear the top of my desk in preparation for NaMoPaiMo. I got on a roll and spent the entire day cleaning. I am pleased to report that my studio is the most presentable it's been in years. It still wouldn't get a Fabian Rodriguez good housekeeping seal of approval, mind you, but it's so much better than it was. Progress.
Of course, while cleaning, I found a lot of things I no longer need to own. The higher dollar items will go up for sale eventually, but I've decided to take a page out of Lynn Isenbarger's playbook and giveaway some of the smaller items via monthly blog raffles. The January offering is a set of 2019 Jennifer Show medallions, Notch and Ruffle. All the usual rules apply: Every comment left on this blog will equal one raffle entry. Old post, new post, multiple posts, it just doesn't matter, but if you're posting anonymously, be sure to include your name. I will choose the winner on January 20.

Cleaning and purging feels good (I need to do more of it myself)! Those medallions are lovely and I’d be thrilled to have one. My current count = zero but I’d be interested in learning how to paint one!
ReplyDeleteNice! I need to get my butt in gear for NaMoPaiMo. -Kristie
ReplyDeleteOh! I have one of those medallions in blue and I always wondered where it'd come from originally, it's super cute! I left the blue base and am painting white appy spotting over it.
ReplyDeleteWhen I set up my new studio I went through everything! now it's nice and neat- until I screw it up again.. lol
ReplyDeleteI'll be cleaning out too once I retire in March. - Barb DiAnnibella
ReplyDeleteMy studio is a disaster area. Mary Menut
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for NaiMoPaiMo and I'm thankful for you for pushing through your hardships and continuing on. This year will be another great year, try to find strength in the things you love! <3 - Britani Gohl
ReplyDelete:::hugs::: Cleaning can take the mind off of things. So much going on right now <3
ReplyDeleteStudio cleaning is such a great feeling! I'm glad you were able to do it. :)

DeleteI'm currently at home sick, fighting the latest respiratory crud. It's really stopping me from doing too much prepping or pastelling. I have been trying to be useful, and clean my studio up a little until I'm feeling better. I'm finding stuff I had forgotten I had! But I am also taking the time to make a list of things I would like to upgrade. As I upgrade I have been trying to share the old things with other budding artists in need in my community. NAmoPaiMo has really instilled in me that feeling of fellowship with other artists and I really love paying it forward! I choose to see my illness as an opportunity, although I'm desperate to get back to art.
ReplyDeleteYou have inspired me so much over the years. This is encouraging me to get my room clean up there and paint next month. It has truly been exhausting here the past few months.
ReplyDeleteI love doing give aways, but I have to admit, it's really nice to be able to be a participant hoping to be drawn rather than the giver this time! Thanks for the opportunity, Jennifer!
ReplyDeleteWow, your studio looks great! I should probably clean mine before NaMoPaiMo
ReplyDeleteI’m having studio envy! All organized, and it looks like you are ready to paint.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on sticking with it despite all of the challenges. Kim B
I am trying to purge too. Mostly working on my first floor, since my mother is my shadow.
ReplyDeleteNaimo is not only my annual push to get some models painted, it also gets me to clear off the painting table! thanks!
ReplyDeleteGiving things away can be so freeing - no pun intended.
ReplyDeleteI like those medallions! I need to clean my desk too, but would love to add those to the "pile" anyway! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. I really need to reorganize as well.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! There's soooo much I need to clean out and reorganize.
ReplyDeleteHey, it’s better than mine looks right now😆
ReplyDeleteI have never painted but one of those medallions would inspire me to try. Progress is such a nice feeling and in the face of so much you can't control, finding something that you can is a relief.

I need to clean my space so bad! Unfortunately life has been getting in my way. I haven't painted since September, hopefully I can get one small model painted for NaMo!
ReplyDeletethe order of cleaning and purging can help ease our minds when so much is happening outside our control.
