Cornered

Olive has been mildly and intermittently lame for the last little bit. It's not much, but it's not going away, so instead of spending this beautiful, warm weekend in the saddle, I've been working on her living quarters. Yesterday, I thoroughly cleaned her stall.
This morning, my goal was to fix the exterior corner of my tack room.
And when I say fix, what I really mean is cover, like Karen did here.
I knew it would be a two person job, so I asked Seth to come with me.
He took one look at that corner, and just like that, the scope creep set in. We went to the hardware store for supplies.
Then it was demo time.
Goodbye, nasty outer wall.
Hello, even nastier inner wall.
Goodbye, all walls!
Of course, when the walls came down, we found even more things that needed replacing.
We installed the new inner walls.
Just enough to keep you out, my dear.
Then it was back to the hardware store.
Nothing but the straightest boards for Seth's pony!
We stopped by the house to feed the dogs and get some more tools. After that, it was back to the barn...
and back to work.
This is probably the only part of this structure that's actually square.
I thought Olive would be afraid when the power tools came out, but mostly, she seemed to enjoy the show.
Roy, too.
This is my favorite picture from the entire day.
Seth filled the gaps with spray foam...
and I swept Olive's run with a magnet to make sure there were no wayward nails.
All I found was an old, disgusting caribener.
The sun went down.
The outer walls went up.
And finally! I got my corner.
Whew! That was a long day. What should I work on tomorrow?

    1. I really expected her to be reactive and terrible, but instead, she was really into "helping". It was so cute.

  3. Next project, huh… I think I spy a wonky side wall, too? Now that Seth is such an expert on wall-building? 😉 I have to say it is nice that you have your own comparatively roomy dedicated space for your stuff. Mine is in a not-quite-wide-enough space consisting of one Western saddle rack and the area below it (where I slide in my Uber-fancy Rubbermaid trunk), while the English saddle goes on a rack overhead. Bridles on hooks elsewhere. I stress over keeping everything neatly contained and zipped and labeled. I’m actually very grateful to have space in the boarder tack room at ALL, though, which for most of my life was the “sanctum Santorum” that I dared not enter. It gives me extreme pleasure each and every time I cross the threshold to finally BELONG. So I’m not really whining!

    1. If finances and Seth's time were unlimited, I'd definitely like to tackle the other walls. Since that's not the case, the emphasis is on Olive's safety and water-tightness. We improved both of those things this time. Next time, maybe we'll add some functionality and style to the interior.
