A message to the naysayers

Yesterday, we got to see the first fully body pictures of Breyer's new draft mare and foal, sculpted by Kylee Parks.

Everyone lost their minds.
I am not an original finish collector, but even I got swept up in the excitement.
In fifteen years of blogging, I have only written a handful of posts about new, original finish releases. That's how excited I was.
Today, the tide turned.  Instead of "Wow, those are amazing!" I started to see:
  • I don't like them.
  • They look like customized versions of Firefly and Hawkeye
  • I don't like mares and foals
  • I can't afford them
  • They look like customized versions of Kylee's others resins
  • I don't like Vanners
  • I can't afford them
  • I don't like draft horses
  • The mare looks like a customized version of Smart Chic Olena
  • I don't like pintos
  • Those aren't the right kind of draft horses
  • Breyers were better when they were made in America
  • I don't like them
Sigh. I think for a lot hobbyists, the real hobby is complaining about the hobby.
Adding fuel to the fire, Breyer sent the first copies of Rhiannon and Rhemi to Trinity Honaker for an unboxing video. It's a cute video, but instead of enjoying the sneak peek, I actually saw someone opine that Trinity "had no idea what she was supposedly promoting..."
Um, hello, her YouTube channel has more than forty thousand followers. I think she - and Breyer - know exactly what she is promoting.
None of this is new. None of it is surprising. This happens every time Breyer releases a new mold.

Literally.

Every.

Single.

Time.

I am so over it.
I admit, I've had a really crappy day, and I am crabby, but also, it's is so easy to say, "Not my thing" and keep scrolling.

So.

So.

So.

Easy.

So yeah, I am so over it.
If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all, or at least, maybe don't say it publicly. I promise, everyone - and especially me - will appreciate your restraint.

  2. People complain about the premier club until it’s a release that everyone wants and they didn’t join and now they want what they can’t get. So they complain about the price now. I think they’re beautiful. Like you said. Just keep scrolling of you don’t like it. (It’ll be the only one I’ll keep this year. I wanted the last one but sold it for bill money 🤷🏻‍♀️)

  3. “They’re not full-on draft horses.”

  4. Oh the Golden Rule… everyone needs a reteaching of it in a major way. The nice thing about Breyers - there is something for everyone. You get what you put into it. What’s that old saying - you get more with honey than with vinegar.

  5. Sometimes the worst part of the hobby is other collectors. I love the set and I'm excited to see them in future releases.

  6. I LOVE them! I love pretty much all things Breyer. If you don't like them, scroll on by, or find something nice, or just say nothing.

Yes, they are pricey, but we KNEW that going into the PC. And now people want them "at cost" or even less.

  7. I don't understand WHY people feel the need to criticize the molds! I get that some people might not like them, but can't you keep that to yourself? And saying that Trinity doesn't know that she's promoting? Seriously?!!!! I feel like she probably knows more than some of the critics!

  8. I'm kinda concerned about the comment about everyone is complaining. If you're speaking about the voices of a loud mouth unhappy few, then I want to assure you that they don't speak for everyone! (Certainly not me!)
I choose to believe that there are more of us who are grateful and happy with whatever Breyer chooses to release. As we don't own the company, it's generous of them that they even listen to our suggestions.
It could be a lot of us feel as you do about the ongoing constant nonsense but because you and others (like Kristen Wellman and Kristian Beverly)can express yourself(and make your point) so well--then there's no need to come out of the woodwork so to speak. We just continue to follow that Golden Rule , scroll by and continue to enjoy our pretty ponies.
I'm with you in thanking Breyer and Kylee Parks for collaborating together to give us this gorgeous mare and foal set. I hope they will not be put off by the naysayers. I, for one, am looking forward to their release.
    OK--returning to lurk mode now.

    1. Of course, you're right. On the whole I have seen A LOT more positive comments than negative ones. The problem is negative comments always hit harder. That old saying that it takes a thousand "atta boys" to erase one "you're an idiot" certainly applies here.

  9. This is a very well written. Personally I love them becase they actually looks like Gypsies. I am hoping to buy two sets when prices go down so I can get one of the sets customized to look like the baby version of my Gypsy Tango and his dam.

  10. You will not please everyone all of the time. Not everyone is going to like everything. And that is fine. Imagine the struggle to get any model if everyone liked everything.

Who cares? So you come on another form of social media and rant? And spread the unhappiness farther?

I could give a rats behind of other people's opinion. You just shrug it off and go about your own life. Why spread it farther making some long winded post? This seems to just be a post to fan the flames of unrest in the hobby.

Personally I was bummed because I was expecting a more traditional type of Draft Breed. I have nothing against these at all. Just I would have loved a Percheron Mare and Foal.

    1. Exactly what I was thinking……

    2. I also wanted a non-feathered heavy draft. Part of the fun is discussing what the release was and wasn’t to individuals. It’s just discussion…..not everyone is going to be in love with every release and that’s ALSO fine.

  11. I totally agree. I am sick and tired of all the negative bashing by some who complain about everything. If you don't care for something, scroll on without throwing out your unkind comments. There are people who would enjoy this new Breyers offering. SMH

  12. I don't care if people complain, it's when they make a habit out of it, and go after people who say they like something that I start to have a problem.
