Ones to watch: Lynn Cassels-Caldwell

I care about every single model horse that is painted during the month of February. It doesn't matter how much the body cost or what the skill level of the painter is. Each one of these works in progress is important and worthy.

That said, some of them are more interesting than others. This year, I'm going to highlight some of the International Model Horse Painting Party's most intriguing creative journeys, starting with Lynn Cassel-Caldwell's Anamar.
Lynn writes: This is a total experimentation horse! Yes, he is metallic dark blue and copper! I'm always trying to find new ways to work with the colour wheel. I'm aiming for a very dark sooty dapple bay. Blue and brown are opposite colours on the colour wheel, so when I put a thin layer of brown over the blue, I should theoretically get a richer, darker brown with a lively undertone.

I love this so much. Nothing makes me happier than seeing accomplished artists using this event to push themselves and try new techniques. Great job, Lynn. I can't wait to see how this one turns out!

  2. Jennifer: do you know where to get waste cast resins? And who sculpted Auron? Thanks! AC

    1. I bought Auron from his sculptor, Kim Murray, when we were both attending Kylee Parks' SuperCALIfragilistic Live show. Kim seems to have stepped back from the hobby since then. I have no idea if he's still available.

Waste mold castings pretty much always come from the sculptor. You're unlikely to get them anywhere else, and honestly, a lot of them aren't worth the trouble.

    2. Oh, thank you so much! I know that waste cast are super, super hard to prep, but I really don't have a budget at all. I'm a kid, you see. Thank you for answering, and I really love Auron already! Are you taking donations for the international painting party? (Just curious!) AC
