Near perfect day

There are four coyote puppies living in the area between the river bottom and the prairie dog field. I have not seen them yet, but hope springs eternal. Today I saddled up and headed out with the express intention of photographing puppies.

I was joined by Mary Jo on Scarlett, Karen on Thunder and Claire on Jasper.
In addition to the rabbits, prairie dogs and hawks that we always see, we crossed paths with a doe and her fawn...
and a big owl.
Then - right at the end! - we saw one of the pups. I wasn't able to get a picture, but just seeing him was enough. We celebrated our success with a post-ride lunch at our favorite watering hole.
After our meal, I hurried home to meet Teresa, who was coming over for a visit.
We showed each other our newest treasures and spent several wonderful hours talking about horses, model horses and the world in general.
If the last year and a half has taught me anything, it's that time spent with friends is precious. Today was the best kind of day. I enjoyed every moment of it.
