C-O-L-I-C

One of the first things I do every day, after saying good morning to Seth and letting the dogs out to pee, is sit down in front of my computer, open up Wordle and type in my start word.
Every single one of the one thousand three hundred fifty Wordle puzzles I have attempted started with O-L-I-V-E. I am nothing if not consistent.
Yesterday, three letters in my start word - O, L and I - turned yellow. I quickly typed in B-R-O-I-L, then S-O-L-I-D. This gave me three green letters and an overwhelming sense of dread.

Hoping against hope, I typed in F-O-L-I-C.

No dice. The answer was C-O-L-I-C.

I have never been less happy to solve a puzzle.
In fact, I was actually irrationally angry. So much so, I felt compelled to share my feelings on Facebook.
Fortunately, my friends were understanding.
Once I got past the shock of seeing Olive succumb to colic again, I was able to (sort of) see the humor in the situation. Still, thanks but no thanks Wordle editors. That was a bad word choice.

Colic is a really bad word.

  1. Oooh!! I'm so sorry for you Jennifer!! I'm so sorry for anyone(and everyone) who owns horses!!
How painful (and insensitive!) that is for any *idiot* to think that would be a "funny"(or appropriate) answer for horse people!
With what your friend is going through with Kaffi, (and it hasn't quite been a year since Olive's passing), how can these *donkey's- back end *holes* (you can figure out the word I really wanna use!)think that *anything* about that response is OKAY!!
I don't blame you for your anger!! And I'm sorry for the pain that must have brought to your heart!

    1. Who exactly are you telling at? Worlde us created by someone using any English word, it isnt supposed to be just foor horse people nor does anyone behid Wordle know anything about Jennifer or Olive. Colic is something that human babies experience with little consequence. You're getting offended at literally nothing.

    3. I don't expect anyone from the New York Times games department is reading this blog. This post wasn't so much about shaming the word choice - although I did, lol - but sharing a universal horse girl reaction to that word. Judging from the comments - which, as per usual, mostly went on my Facebook page - I achieved that.

  2. Well… damn. Never have I been so glad to NOT have done Wordle! I had a colicy first baby but she is not who I would have thought about, needless to say. I’m sorry that happened to you!

PS. Broil is one of my favorite start words.
