For the first ten years, this blog was almost entirely video free.
When people started asking for video tutorials, I'd laugh.
"I'm a writer," I'd say, "And a photographer. Videos are not my skill set."
They weren't, and they still aren't, but over time, I started adding them in anyway. Not tutorials, mind you, but little clips of my life, the things I want to remember and hold on to forever.
I want to hold on to Olive forever, so I'm really glad I took a lot of videos of her.
The oldest videos focus mostly on riding and training.
That seemed important at the time.
Eventually, that changed. While I never stopped taking between the ears footage of my best girl and I going places together, that stopped being a primary concern.
Instead, I started taking a lot of videos of Olive being Olive.
I loved watching her interact with other horses...
and other animals.
That pony loved small animals.
Here she is with Piper and Soot,
Darcy, who can sometimes try anyone's patience...
and Emma.
When we were doing all our walks this summer, she made it quite clear that dogs were okay,
but goats should be treated with suspicion.
Geese, too, if there were enough of them.
I also took a lot of clips of her and Seth.
They were so cute together.
Weird...
but cute!
Of course, a lot of the videos are of Olive and I.
I spent a lot of time with her, doing nothing more than hanging out.
I cherished that time, and I think she did, too.
Maybe.
Definitely.
I am so, so, so glad I took captured these moments.
They are literally helping me get through this period, when the pain of loss is so acute.
This post is mostly just a place for me to save some of my favorite Olive videos so I can visit her when I'm lonely.
Good girl, Boo. I love you.

Such a good girl ❤️
ReplyDeleteI tremble at the inherent warning in your claim: "I'm a writer and a photographer. Videos are not my skill set...." Because that's just exactly where I am. However, I have a third channel, drawing, which I will be trying to monetize in coming years. Having done it before is a bonus. // I will be returning to the Olive Channel when I have better reception and more time. As the keeper, sharer and historian (I want to say documentrix) of one especially beloved horse, you are without equal in my eyes: Sine qua non.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you have so many videos to remember her by.
ReplyDeleteI'm usually all about photos, but right now videos are where it's at. Watching her go about her everyday life has really helped to wash out some of the images from the bad last day.
DeleteThese are wonderful and I’m so glad you have them. I have hundreds of photos of Kiefer and of the two of us, and lots of videos of us in the show ring c/o Tim, but almost none of him just being himself. Or of him and I just goofing off. I’m going to change that… thank you for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely do! I'm sure it's different for everyone, but I haven't cared about the riding videos at all. I will miss that part of Olive, of course, but it feels minor compared to everything else.
DeleteIt's a treasure that you had all these moments. And can now even see them again as a short video.
ReplyDeleteA video is different to a photo.
I definitely have too few videos and too few photos of my loved ones. I realized this when my mother died. Months later I was sooo very happy to find some photos of her.
You have lots of photos of Olive. Maybe it would be nice to put them together in a picture book?
I did that for my dog with analogue photos. The digital photos today are all so "unreal" and gone very quickly.
I love this! Super important to capture our beasties in video and photo…I treasure all I have as well. Thank you for sharing her memories with us ❤️
