Meg's AOTH entry

BreyerFest ModelHorseFest week is nearly upon us, and somehow, I still have more contest entries to share. I'm trying, but realistically, I may not get to all of them. That's no reflection on the quality of work. It's more about time and energy and - more significantly - the lack thereof.

But, I digress. Here's a really nice entry for the Art of the Horse Division B, Drastic Realistic Custom by Meg Schroeder. Thanks, Meg!

The Making of Spirit of the Sands

by Meg Schroeder

An Arabian stallion showing off his floating gaits as the wind pushes him over the dunes. He moves smoothly and effortlessly as if one with the sand. An ancient creature who enchants the desert.
He started off as a Stone Arabian stallion. Only part of his original barrel is left. Everything else has been rescuplted with armature wire and epoxy. He was a very challenging piece! The back legs gave me the most trouble, but after going back and fixing them again with no time to spare, I feel it was worth it! I used oil paints for his base coat and airbrushed his black points. His details were done by hand in acrylics.
My goal was to create the harmony between an Arabian and the desert, and that simpatico they have with each other. As if one couldn't be without the other.
Congratulations, Meg. You did a great job transforming that Arabian stallion into a completely different - and equally wonderful - Arabian stallion. Good luck in Kentucky!
