Spread the word

For more than a decade, my mom was this blog's most avid reader.
Also, its most ardent critic.
"Too many horse posts," she'd tell me. "Write something about your kids."
After a week of live show coverage, she'd say, "Ugh, so boring. No one wants to read that."
I'd remind her that she was not the target audience. This was, in fact, a model horse blog, and people did want to read about models.
Her response: "Phooey!"
She also had a lot to say about my readers, specifically their comments or lack there of.
"That was a good post," she'd tell me. "Why didn't it get any comments?"
I'd explain - again - that there were comments, but they'd landed on the Braymere Facebook page rather than the blog itself.
Her response: another "Phooey!"
Mom doesn't read my blog anymore, but I still hear her voice when certain posts fail to get comments.
I get it, though. I read a lot of blog posts, but I only comment on a few.
It's not a reflection of the post itself. Sometimes I am still thinking about the author's words several days later.
I always mean to go back and say something, but I rarely do.
So yeah, I get it.
Still, I know how much bloggers appreciate comments. Like the occasional cup of "coffee", they are one of the things that connect us to our audience and help us to keep writing, even during the hard times.
Especially during the hard times.
This post is a reminder - to myself and everyone else - to regularly leave comments on the blog posts I enjoy. It's a little thing, but those words really do make a difference!

  1. I don’t comment very often: although I greatly enjoy reading them. Even to commiserate with the sad ones. I lost my male Husky last year (August 21st); I had been away for 3 weeks helping my brother and vacation.

  2. I just love your blog! It keeps me connected to a lot of things: meeting you „in reality“ back in 1991, my stay with the Browns then, the 25 years I spent with my own horse…
I‘m happy when I get to read a new post!

  3. It's the same for me, I rarely think about commenting when I should. In the end, we are all the same...

  7. I don't often comment, but I check your blog every single day -- sometimes multiple times a day! It's a huge part of my routine and I'm a big fan of all the topics, but especially your Olive (now Sage) posts!

  8. I understand that some will comment and others won't, and that there are many reasons that that happens. But over the years I've been blogging, I've found that those who have commented frequently on my blog have become like friends to me. An unexpected part of blogging that I love!

  9. I read your blog almost every day. It’s one of the blogs that first got me into the model horse hobby. Thank you so much for all your great posts!

  10. I wish Blogspot had a "like comment" feature, because I would absolutely click that for every comment here.

There is, of course, no requirement to leave a comment on a blog, but know that when you do, it is very much appreciated <3

  13. Such a beautiful post. I do love seeing life through the eyes of the bloggers I follow. It keeps me connected to the communities the bloggers are part of and also life is just easier to take when you see others enduring similar things to yourself or things unique to just them and its feels good to see the bloggers succeed and have wonderful things happen in their lives.

  14. I should comment more, but I hope you know I ADORE your blog! Out of all the many blogs I started reading way back when, yours is one of the three that I still keep up with. Kudos to you for keeping going because lots of others haven’t! We’re here for all of it, the good, the bad and the ugly, the real horses, the model horses, the dogs and your beautiful photos. You are very VERY much appreciated!
