I work at a big retail chain tack shop. Of course, we carry Breyer horses.
We also have a large selection of plush horses, some by Breyer.
Some not. These little Aurora ponies are quite popular. I was tagging some the other day.
Like this chestnut, most of the color names were obvious.
But what is mocha?
As it turns out, that is a patchy roan...
with a white belly.
Hmmmmm. I know a horse like that!
When people ask me what color my new horse is, I usually say chestnut roan or chestnut rabicano, depending on the audience. I think next time, however, I might take a cue from Aurora. Sage is a mocha horse!

Something interesting that I learned is that Aurora is the commercial distributor for Breyer. Those Aurora plushies are under the same department as they are under the toy animal section! Technically competing against each other but the distribution partner is playing both sides ;)
ReplyDeleteAt least at my store, Aurora is winning. We can't keep the flopsies in stock, but we pretty much always have the Breyer plushies.
DeleteYay for rabicano (mocha) pictures!!
ReplyDeleteSorry to ask - what is a flopsy?
ReplyDeleteKirsten
It's just the name Aurora gives to their plush ponies
DeleteI have the mocha plush, it was in a bunch of appaloosa identified plushies that my BF got me back from the US. I see it as a varnish roan of some kind :')
