One of this summer's major storylines that I have not shared here is the seemingly unending list of things that have gone wrong with Seth’s car. It's been the gift that keeps on giving, except all the gifts are bad. The most recent problem is so exceptionally bad, we're currently sharing my car, which means today, I don't have a car at all.
Thank goodness for Karen! She picked me up this morning, and together, we went to the barn. As usual, the first order of business was walking Sage.
For the last week or so, we've been working on wearing a bit.
This is not Sage's favorite thing. If I thought she was going to be with me forever, I'd probably just start her bitless. Since I don't know what her future will be, I'm trying really hard to prepare her for pretty much everything. This includes wearing a bit.
I have never met a horse with such an amazing ability to put her tongue over-the-bit-under-the-bit-over-the-bit-under-the-bit.
It's truly impressive.
But also, it's getting better.

Every day, I am rewarded with longer and longer sessions of quiet-mouthed pony.
Bit issues aside, this girl is nearly unflappable. I love walking with her. After our walk, I put Sage in the mare field and turned my attention to Luna. Karen has worked with her every day since she arrived, but this was the first riding day. Out of an abundance of caution, we lunged first.
She was fine, so I climbed aboard.
What a pretty view!
We walked some laps with Karen and Kaffi.
Then we traded horses.
More laps.
They look so good together!
Today was so much fun. Thank you, Karen, for everything. I am so glad we didn't let a little car trouble ruin our day!

Karen let you ride her first?! Indeed, you have a good friend! The two horses make a lovely pair. / Sage's tongue views, after I stopped laughing, make me think 'she would love a cricket (roller) on her bit.'
ReplyDeleteOn the off chance that things had gone sideways, I'm a bit younger and bounce better.
