Pictures from this week's rides

After a week of rest and NSAIDs, Olive is better, but not all the way better. Aside from a short walking bareback ride on Wednesday, I haven't ridden her in more than two weeks.

Which is not to say I haven't ridden.
On Thursday, I arrived at the barn at my regular time, and no surprise, my regular riding group was getting ready to hit the trail. The barn owner asked if I was going to join them, and I said no. Olive was still not right. I thought that would be the end of it, but then she asked me if I would like to ride one of her horses. Of course, I said yes. She pointed me at a pasture and told me I could ride the red one or the black one.
I chose the red one.
Her name is Fantasia. Like all of Linda's horses, she's a purebred Arabian with a lot of endurance miles.
We saddled up and headed out.
At first Fantasia was crabby and lagged behind.
Then she kicked into gear and was fabulous for the rest of the ride.
So fabulous, in fact, I rode her again on Friday, which is when most of these photos were taken.
We rode out along the top both days. On Thursday, we came back that way, too.
On Friday, we rode back through the trees.
It was wet...
and there aren't many leaves left on the trees.
The winter landscape.
It's still beautiful to me.
I miss riding my pony, but thanks to the generosity of my friends, I haven't had to miss many rides. Still, I'm hoping the next ride will be on Olive!

  1. Oooooo--I know a whole lot of things aren't any of our business (and a lot of things are personal and you can't go into details) but Olive feels just a little different!
Is it OK if we ask what happened?
Did she hurt herself during a ride--or is it more medical than that??
And if you prefer not to discuss it, that's perfectly fine too!!
    I hope she's better soon!!

  2. There really isn't a lot of story to share. One day she felt a little off, and although she's never been very lame, she hasn't been 100% for a while. The vet is in the loop, we're working on it, but honestly, the fact that it's so mild makes it harder in some ways.

  3. Mild lameness always makes me think suspensory injury. I hope that isn't the case.
