Drifter's Hearts of Hope

This morning, Karen, Therese and I met at the barn, but instead of going riding together like usual, we piled into Therese's car and drove to Franktown, Colorado to attend the Drifter's Hearts of Hope Deck the Stalls party and fundrasier.

Drifter's Heart's of Hope (DHOH) is a non-profit horse rescue committed to circumventing the slaughter pipeline.
DHOH is also the creator of the Annie Project, a program created in partnership with Colorado dude ranches to find new homes for retiring horses. As a former guest ranch employee, the Annie Project is near and dear to my heart.
The DHOH property is absolutely gorgeous. We oohed and ahed as we drove up the driveway.
Just look at these views!
The barn was beautifully decorated both outside...
and in.
We quickly made our way to the fundraiser.
Horse rescue is expensive, so we all showed up with our wallets.
There were a variety of donated gift baskets displayed in the barn aisle.
Awww! This one is from Dover.
There were so many great items, it was hard to choose.
Therese and I both bought gift baskets to give to friends and family for Christmas.
Karen had said she didn't need anything and was just going to donate money.
Then she saw the skull!
Once we'd made our purchases, it was time to go outside and meet the horses.
While we were doing that, we ran into my work friend, Sarah.
We picked out new horses for Karen and Therese, but not for me.
It makes my heart happy seeing so many cute, grey faced horses being cared for this well.
I'm so glad there are rescues like DHOH dedicated to finding home for these good old horses.
This was a really fun day. Thank you, Karen and Therese, for spending it with me.
