The first official meeting of the Jennifer Show Planning Committee was held last July at my favorite Mexican restaurant.
The number one item on our agenda was securing a suitable show hall. Our first choice was the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, which is home to the long running Springamathing and Red Devil shows. Alas, there was no room in the inn.
It was time to cast a wider net. We contacted multiple metro area venues looking for an affordable space that was at least 5,000 square feet in size, with good parking, good light and good proximity to hotels and restaurants.
This was easier said than done.
Most of the most suitable spaces were booked solid for years in advance. The remainder were too small, too expensive or way too far way. It was discouraging.
Then, we contacted the Arapahoe County Fairground.
They had one opening in September for a huge room that was still under construction. It was expensive, but not impossibly so, and sounded perfect otherwise. Even though we weren't able to tour the space, we decided it was our best option. We went ahead and booked the room.
Then we waited. And waited and waited. Earlier this month we were contacted by the event coordinator. She told us that construction was complete and, we were now welcome to come take a look.
We drove out Monday. This is "our" room from the outside...
and here it is on the inside. WOW! This is twelve thousand five hundred square feet of awesome.
The room comes with its own sound system and seventy five banquet tables. There are bathrooms nearby, and those big garage doors open up to more parking space than we will ever need.
Even with the doors closed, the light inside the hall is fantastic. This was taken in the middle of the room without a flash.
It's a little scary booking a room sight unseen, but we couldn't be more pleased with our decision. The Arapahoe County Fairgrounds is the perfect home for the Jennifer Show. I can't wait to see that big room filled up with horses and hobbyists!
