Model horse hobbyists love initialism. OF, CM, SR, RR, LSQ, PSQ, NIB, MIB, OOAK, YCI, PSA, HR, PS--it's not unusual for an average MH$P ad to read like a cup of alphabet soup!
Fortunately, most of these abbreviations are pretty easy to decipher. Over the years there have only been a few that left me scratching my head with confusion. One of those was HSO. I can't tell you how long I struggled with that before someone clued me in to its meaning.
In case you're also wondering--this is an HSO.

Horses have realistic anatomy and biomechanics. HSO's do not.

I don't actively collect HSO's, so I was a bit dismayed yesterday when Seth came home with the afro horse (he swears it was a rescue and no money exchanged hands). Today, however, I've decided to embrace its awfulness. Besides, there are some advantages to having a few HSO's at my disposal.

The Gift Horse giveaway of 2012 depleted my carpet herd substantially. I need to be ready the next time a little girl comes to visit.

ReplyDeleteIt's a good idea to have a carpet herd, something I don't happen to have myself. Several young people have come over and asked to play with my horses and I have to be mean and tell them they are just for looking at (good thing they never saw me playing with them)

ReplyDeleteWhen I first started out, I was able to figure out (or find out) what most of the acronyms were. The Acronyms Finder online helped with a lot more but I couldn't for the life of me figure out "HSO". I finally had to break down and ask. Boy did I feel silly!!!

ReplyDeleteI was tickled when I heard the acronym. I think there are more of them than Breyers and Stones: My Little Ponies, Made-in-Japans, Grand Champions, PlayMobil and Barbies to name a few. But I'm stumped... what is YCI?

ReplyDeleteI wish I had more little girls come visit, and specifically, I wish my little niece, Liliana, could come more often. Her mother just sent me a note saying that Lilie has a new imaginary horse friend named Button. Button lives in the house, but she's not housebroken. I've been asked for advice. All I can think is, "Send her to me. She'll come home with Button and Rev and Trillium and at least half a dozen HSO's!"

I always keep a few HSOs of different age-categories on hand. That way, when my friends have kids and bring them over, I can start the horse-loving brainwashing err... influencing right away! ;)

I recognize most of the abbreviations, but what are YCI, HR, and PSA? Those are the only ones i'm stumped on.
ReplyDeleteI have so many HSOs from before I discovered Breyers . . . back then, anything vaguely horse-related got lumped into my horse obsession.

ReplyDeleteIt is a unicorn My Little Pony and the person thought that they had found a unicorn mouse for my mouse collection. I had never sean the HSO before or PSA so thanks for the language lesson.
