Today we ride

We're ten days into 2021, and already it's been a year.
Not all of it has been bad.
But the bad parts have been absolutely horrifying.
Normally, this would be Stock Show week, but of course, that's been cancelled due to the never-ending, always-worsening pandemic.
This year's BreyerFest has also fallen victim to the pandemic, at least the in-person part of it. The announcement was made earlier this week, and while it's absolutely the right decision, it's hard not to get discouraged. It seems like life will never get back to normal.
The pandemic has taken so much from all of us, but fortunately for me, it has not taken my riding. So today - even though it was only twenty eight degrees - Mary Jo and I saddled up and went for a ride.
At first we stuck to the paved parts of the trail.
Eventually, however, we were unable to resist the lure of fresh snow.
There's nothing better than putting first tracks on fresh snow!
Or at least the first non-wildlife tracks.
It was really cold...
and really beautiful.
I'm glad we got to do that.
Someday all of this will be a memory. We'll be able to go places and gather together again. I look forward to that so much, but today was a good day. Today we rode.

  1. awesome photos as always, Sometimes I wish I could ride in the snow but the I relise that rain makes enough mud without freezing the ground too.

  6. I miss riding, after having kids no more time for that, and now I don’t have time for anything. Trying to keep busy so I joined the Barn raising and I’m working on my two barns. Keep riding Ms.Jennifer we live through you.

  7. Ah yes, I remember riding in freshly fallen snow. And riding in the freshly fallen snow WHILE it's still snowing is magical...

  10. Even though it’s not the same as the real deal, I think there is something to be said for online breyerfest. Even though I was hoping to go to the real thing, I’m still looking forward to the online event.

    1. I enjoyed last year's online BreyerFest far more than I expected to, and I have no doubt that this year's will be even better. I actually hope that even after this is over, BreyerFest will continue to have an online component.

That said, I miss traveling, and I miss my friends.

  12. Some of us choose not to live in fear and still go places and see people. We just don’t take stupid risks.
