Recycling

Remember that pile of silver buckles I took off the sidesaddle double bridle?  I'm pleased to report they've been put to good use on Christie's Tennessee Walking Horse bridle.
I believe in recycling.  Mistakes and leftovers don't get thrown away.  Instead they go into the recycling bins located along the back of my work area.
"Snippets" are leftover lengths of prepared lace.  Most of these aren't long enough to be stirrup leathers or reins, but they work great for boot straps, curb straps and keepers.
The "Odds and Ends" bin is filled with mistakes, experiments and extras.  There's nothing wrong with a lot of this stuff.  In fact, there are a couple really nice girths in there.
Admittedly, I'm probably not saving myself a lot of time or money with my recycling efforts.  Still, every little bit counts and it pleases me to no end every time I make something from the leftovers in my recycle bins.

  1. My bits and pieces are in cigar boxes courtesy of Christie Partee. Before I got them from her, everything was just in a pile! They sure do come in handy when you have a repair or need just a small piece in a certain color....so like you, I save!!!

  3. Thanks, Jennifer! I can't wait to get it! And I am all about recycling! :-)

If you lived closer, I would gladly give you a bunch of cigar boxes. My husband's cigar club always has plenty! My own favorite use for them is for costumes: I ca store a doll, some tack and props for a costume all in a convenient box!

  4. I do the same thing! Only mine are much less organized. Waste not!

  5. I should really get some boxes for all my oddments and scraps - as it is, all my leather is kept in a big green bag with cobs on it and finding the good stuff is pretty difficult!

  6. Oh man, I thought I was the only one who did this.
