Sube isn't the only new equine at the Denver Zoo. On May 13, Topaz the Grevy's Zebra delivered her third foal, a filly now called Xena.
It's a fitting name. At just nine days old, Xena is proving to be a true warrior princess. She's big...
and sturdy...and full of sass!
Unlike quiet little Sube, Xena is a perpetual motion machine.
Not content to waste her time sleeping...
she's a rolling, scratching,
exploring,
racing,
and nursing fiend.
Poor Topaz!
I think she's got her work cut out for her with this one!

She's adorable!
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to make a zebra resin, zebras can be trained. That would be great for performance and there is lots of things for reference. Xena is the cutest thing.
ReplyDeleteThe fur ridge on her back is ADORABLE.
ReplyDeleteHer teeny little stripes and teeny little hooves are adorable too!
ReplyDeleteCute as well as incredible. First time I've ever seen a zebra's girth from below.
ReplyDeleteHard to believe, but Xena was even cuter in person. I could have watched her antics all day, but in deference to the men, I "only" stayed by her pen for an hour or so. Didn't matter. As far as the guys were concerned that WAS all day.
ReplyDeleteShe is sooo cute!!! I adore foals!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering, I'm doing a project in my 4-h group on model horses. I have to do a display board and then I present it to a judge. I was wondering if I could use some your photos on my display board.
thanks,
Elizabeth
That would be fine, Elizabeth. If you can, take a picture of the display board when it's done. I'd love to see it!

The mare in the last pic's expression is priceless!
ReplyDeleteShe's so adorable!! Thanks for sharing these wonderful photos. My two girls (ages 5 and 2) came running over to oooh and ahh too. ;)
