Looking for Ms. Right
Could this be her?
I've always dreamed of owning a horse. When I was younger, the horse lust was all consuming. I lived, breathed and dreamed horses. I went to a college with an Equine Science program, and I worked at stables, guest ranches and tack shops. I simply couldn't bear the thought of life without (real) horses.
And then...
I got older and my life became crowded with grown up responsibilities. I never stopped wanting the horse, but the wanting lost its urgency. Time, money and energy were on short supply. I filled the void with semi-regular rides on borrowed horses, hanging out with horsey friends and, of course, my models. And for a time, that was enough.
Lately, however, that's been changing. The wanting has returned and it's returned with a vengeance. While I would absolutely love to go out and buy myself a horse, I know that's not the best thing. There are still time/money/energy issues. What I really need is half a horse...
Which brings us back to this girl.
This is Bobbie. She is stabled just five miles from my house and her owner is looking for someone to half lease her. The price is surprisingly affordable and so far everything seems like a good fit. I would have three days of riding a week plus unlimited carrot/grooming visits. The stable has both indoor and outdoor rings plus access to twenty five miles of trails. It all just sounds perfect.
Wish me luck! I should know one way or the other this weekend!
She's beautiful, good luck! Sounds ideal!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! She looks like a sweetie :-)
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Jennifer! Sounds like an ideal opportunity. She does look like a sweetie. : )
ReplyDeleteGood luck! She's pretty cute. You'll have fun with her. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to get back into it! And you couldn't ask for a cuter horse.
ReplyDeleteWhat a blonde bombshell! Gorgeous. Please do keep us updated on you riding her. She looks positively lovely.
ReplyDeleteBody parts are crossed...she's a CUTIE :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a situation made in heaven! Does she have a good personality/ability/training etc?
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate all the good thoughts. I SO want this to work out! I'm riding her Saturday and I know that's just a few days away but I can barely stand the wait. It's like I'm twelve years old all over again.
ReplyDeleteIt's my understanding that she is a handfull under saddle--not crazy or totally green but full of beans most of the time. That's fine with me. I don't like a horse that needs to be kick, kick, kicked. I just want to make sure she's not so much horse that I can't relax and enjoy her, and I'm sure her mother wants to see that I'm a good enough rider to handle her and not get hurt.
If she doesn't work out, I'm sure there will be another horse that does. Still, I have to tell you that I am already feeling hugely attached to that pretty palomino face!
I like your last comment, because looking at her I thought, she's going to be a little fireball. My eye picked up little things that made me intuit your description. She looks smart! Does she have arab in her? Something about her face...
ReplyDeleteShe is such a lovely girl but you have to try if you two match. Good luck! ;-))
ReplyDeleteWell you can never go wrong when you go blond! Did you find out her breeding? If she is related to my two palomino morab mares that would be too funny!
ReplyDeleteAnd you know what color looks great on palomino.....PINK!
and leopard print!!!!!!
Wahoo! She is sooo gorgeous. I have met many a wonderful horse and wonderful (human!) friends through leasing. Good luck, and keep us posted!
ReplyDeleteBif--she's a Morab. She's competed in Endurance in the past, but I don't think she's been ridden much at all lately.
ReplyDeleteTiffany--I think Bobbie could pull off leopard print, but I don't think I can. She is much more glam than me! Don't know her breeding either. I know she came from Montana and is not registered.
Leah--If this works out I think everyone will quickly grow tired of all the pretty palomino pictures. I'm going to have to remind myself this is mainly a TACK blog... That might be hard for awhile!
Hehe, she looks like she could use some riding- she's quite round. Also looks like those feet could use a trim. Other than that, she looks good. What a cute face.
