The first time I went to BreyerFest, Erin Corbett and Melanie Miller picked me up in a rented twelve passenger van which they were driving from Washington to Kentucky.
We left my house in the afternoon and drove east into the sunset. It was dark by the time we reached the Colorado border, but there was no talk of stopping. Instead we pushed on through the long states of Kansas and Missouri.
Since I wasn't driving, I slept through most of that. I woke to a beautiful Eastern Missouri sunrise.
Then it was on to Illinois,Indiana...
and finally, Kentucky.
Almost hours after leaving my house in Aurora, we reached our destination. What a long, wonderful, crazy adventure!I traveled the same route to BreyerFest in 2019.This time I was the one doing the driving, so we did it in two days rather than one. I took no pictures. Instead, I relied on my traveling buddies to memorialize the journey.
This year, I'm doing it a little different. Instead of driving through Kansas and Missouri, this morning I'm heading to the airport.
I will board a plane headed to Chicago.
I will spend the night in Grayslake with my friend, Tiffany, who I haven't seen in far too long.
Tomorrow, we'll get in the car and make the relatively short drive to Lexington.
Driving to BreyerFest with Tiffany has been on my hobby bucket list for more than a decade. I can't believe it's finally happening. I can't wait.
