Winter pony

Olive is a fat, healthy mustang with a thick winter coat. I put off buying her a blanket because, honestly, I didn't think she needed one. Even in the middle of winter, most of our nights aren't that cold.

Well, except this week.
I thought about three days of snow, wind, subfreezing temperatures and a north facing stall with limited shelter. Then I went to work and bought my horse a blanket.
I put it on her Tuesday night, just as the snow started falling. Wednesday morning dawned cold and snowy. Therese sent mid-morning proof of life pictures, so I knew Olive was alive and well and the blanket was intact.
Still, I wanted to see her with my own two eyes. Seth offered to go with me, if we could take Piper. That seemed like a good deal, so I made Olive a hot meal...
and we headed out.
The roads weren't too terrible, and Olive seemed happy to see us.
While I attended to her, Seth took Piper into the ring.
Next thing I knew, they were climbing the mounting block and jumping cross rails.
Piper likes going to the barn when the cats aren't around.
Olive and I watched them for a bit.
Then the snow started picking up again. I gave her a kiss...
and tucked her back into her stall.
Stay warm, sweet pony. I'll see you this evening after work.
