BCC Theme

Every year, the BreyerFest Best Customs Contest includes a theme class which varies from year to year. The 2021 theme is "Classically Customized." Entrants were asked to transform a classic (1:12) scale Breyer in any way they saw fit. As you might expect the results are outstanding. Here's a look at some of the Theme class entries.
Last year, Amanda Brock won the BCC Fantasy category with her glorious, Enbarr. This year, she took a Classic rearing Mustang and turned him into this lovely fellow.
Amanda writes: Say hello to "Castillo"! I wanted to do something a bit more "classic" for him, so I had fun with mohair! It was a challenge, but I am really thrilled with how it turned out. Castillo is enjoying himself in a pasture near a pond, and he stands on one hoof!
The classic Mustang was a popular choice for this class. Jennifer Arsuaga used him to create this fun trotting model, her first ever custom.
And here he is again, this time transformed by Maddie Miller. She writes: This is Renegade, Florida State University's football mascot. FSU is one of two American colleges that has the blessing of the Native American tribe that pays it tribute. The leader of the Seminole tribe introduced the idea of having a horse and rider run across the football field before every home game. Several tribe members helped the university design accurate regalia and choreograph the movement of the horse and rider..
Cindy Evans-Yates picked another new mold, the classic walking draft, for her entry. He is now a fluffly, cantering cob, complete with mustache.
Kim Stevens' model is also a fluffly one. This was her 2020 NaMoPaiMo horse. Loved him then, and still love him now. It makes me so happy seeing NaMoPaiMo horses in the Best Customs Contest!
Last but certainly not least, here's Danielle Dunn's tribute to Whistlejacket. She writes: I decided to enter the Theme class, it being Classically Customized. I had a classic Ginger in my body box and after some searching and thinking, I decided to completely resculpt Ginger, using "Whistlejacket" by George Stubbs as inspiration. This horse is pretty much an original sculpt, there is nothing left of the original plastic left. He is exceptionally heavy!  This was probably the toughest resculpt I have ever done, to match a different style of art, and what a scary *pain* he was to prep.
The base was also a learning experience, she continues. After some expensive shopping, I had sand, epoxy resin, dyes, and a wooden picture frame that I filled with Styrofoam and laid plastic down with white paper before starting resin work. Let me tell you...that is MESSY. It didn't come out the way I wanted, but I think its a cool effect for my very first time doing it! Because Whistlejacket cannot stand the way I wanted with a heavy backend, I put a peg in and filled resin around it so that the peg is permanent but the horse is not, and is even adjustable if desired
Good work and good luck, Amanda, Jennifer, Maddie, Cindy, Kim and Danielle. I hope you have a wonderful BreyerFest!
