Neither of us had ever been to a combined driving event, but we knew we were in for a good day when we saw our first horse in the parking lot.
So cute!
We followed him across Bayou Gulch Road to the cross country course. There, we spent some time checking out the warm-up ring,
the vet check area...
and the start box.
Unlike the cross country phase of a three day event, all the horses we saw left the start box at a walk or slow trot.
Similarly, while nearly everyone hustled through the obstacles...
the pace between obstacles was leisurely....
and everyone seemed to be having a good time.
There were a nice variety of breed types, including a couple sporty horses,
several sporty ponies,
one very small pony,a miniature donkey,
a Friesian,two feathered cobs,
and a team of handsome greys. This was a fabulous way to spend a day.
It almost makes me want to buy a marathon cart and try combined driving in 1:9 scale. Almost.

If I recall the rules correctly it's because you're only timed at the obstacles.
ReplyDeleteThat would make sense. The pace between obstacles truly was leisurely.
