Weekend wrap up

Wow! That was a fun Derby yesterday. I don't usually like it when big longshots win important races, but everything about Mine That Bird's story was so ridiculously implausible that I couldn't help but get swept up in the excitement. I don't care if he turns out to be like Giacomo and never wins another race. As far as I'm concerned Kentucky Derby 2009 goes down as one of the satisfying Derbies in recent memory.
The weather is beautiful here today. It would have been a perfect day for riding, but I was too disorganized and didn't make the necessary arrangements. Instead we ended up taking our dogs to the off leash area of a local state park. We've had a wet spring and parts of the walking path were underwater. The dogs didn't mind.My kids didn't either!
Abbie was reluctant to turn around when we reached the end of the leash free area. She may be old and rather slow, but there's nothing wrong with her stamina. She'll walk all day if you let her.
The leash free area adjoins a rental horse facility.
On the way back to the car, I did what I usually do. I cut across the field and walked along the fence line so that I could pet noses admire the horses.
This big guy was really hoping we would ignore the sign and give him a little something to eat. Little did he know, the only treats we had were dog biscuits!
I finished the sidesaddle yesterday and tomorrow I am hoping finish the NAN auction saddle. I will be so relieved to have that one done. It's rare for me to spend so long on one tack item--sure hope it will be worth it in the end!
