Slowing down... a little!

After I finished the marathon harness, I promised my family that I would not take any more rush orders this year. I really meant it, too, but then I got an email from a customer with a big tack credit asking if she could possibly have a saddleseat set made before Region X Regionals on November 8.Normally, I can accommodate rush orders. In fact, I kind of like them. I'm a fast worker and I'm good at deadlines. I've made at least a dozen saddleseat saddles so I have the pattern worked out. The bridle wasn't going to be a problem either since the resin it needed to fit is one that I own. This was a totally do-able request and I really wanted to tell her I could get it done.

However, my kids were on "Fall Break" last week and having them home puts a serious dent in my tack time. To make it work, I'd have had to cancel some plans and rearrange others. It would have been stressful for everyone. As much as I hate to say no, I couldn't see any way around it...
Luckily, we were able to work out an alternate solution. My customer found a saddle to borrow. All she really needed to get her horse in the ring was a bridle. Now, double bridles are about the fussiest piece of tack you can make, but they are something I can get done in one long day provided I don't allow myself to be distracted. I got the kids off to school this morning and went right to work. I worked straight through until it was time to pick the kids up again, and that was just about the perfect amount of time. As you can see from the pictures, the bridle is finished. Liesl gets to show her saddleseat horse at RXR, and I can make her saddle later this month as my schedule allows. So glad to be able to say both no and yes to a rush order and have it all work out!

If you're attending RXR, be sure to check out Liesl's new super customized Morgan resin who will be making his debut there. I'm lucky enough to have seen pictures and he's amazing!
